The world
in 1917

In 1917, the world was close to the apocalypse.

Portugal was still immersed in the chaos caused by the fall of the monarchy. Armies from all over the world were massacring each other in the trenches of Europe and Africa. And to the east, in Russia, the communist revolution was about to break out, threatening to spread its atheism throughout humanity.

Apparitions
of the angel

In 1916, the Angel of Portugal appeared three times to the Little Shepherds.

The Angel repeatedly asks the three seers to pray for sinners and for the conversion of the world.

“Fear not. I am the Angel of Peace. Pray with me“

Apparitions of
Our Lady

The first five apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima, almost always on the 13th, took place between May and September 1917.

In each apparition, Our Lady revealed a little more about their intentions and their requests. She showed them hell and entrusted them with the Secret of Fatima.

The doubt

As soon as the news spread, believers, skeptics, religious and civil authorities started looking for Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco, wanting to know more details about what was going on.

All this pressure was exhausting for the children, but the skepticism that hurt Lucia the most was that of Maria Rosa, her mother.

“O Most Holy Trinity, I adore you. My God, my God, I love you in the Blessed Sacrament.“

The miracle
of the sun

As she had promised, Our Lady appeared in the Cova da Iria on October 13, 1917, to perform a miracle in front of around 76,000 people.

The thousands of pilgrims present saw the sun moving. While the pilgrims watched the sun dance, the Little Shepherds saw another vision: Our Lord, Our Lady of Sorrows, Our Lady of Mount Carmel and St. Joseph with the Child Jesus.

“How the sun danced at noon in Fatima“

The secret

In the first Apparition, a secret is revealed that consists of three parts.

The vision of Hell and the great war to come, the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the suffering of a bishop dressed in white.

Fatima, a
universal devotion

The way in which the Message of Fatima spread, becoming truly universal, is for many a true miracle.

It can be said, without fear of making a mistake, that there isn't a corner of the world that doesn't know Our Lady of Fatima.

John Paul II,
the Pope of Fatima

A man of great Marian faith, he did not hesitate to thank Our Lady of Fatima for his salvation on May 13, 1981.

He called the statue in the little chapel to Rome several times, but it was here, in Fatima, that his devotion was most felt, during his three visits to this Shrine.

“The Pope of Fatima. A man of great Marian faith, he visited the Shrine of Fatima three times“
